New Moon in Cancer: Seeking Security Within
New Moon in Cancer: July 20, 2020

Your Natal Chart & this New Moon in Cancer
First thing first. If you want to know where New + Full Moons are occurring in your specific chart, you’ll need to pull your chart here if you don’t have it already. You can also learn much more about your Natal Chart through the Intro To Astro Course (included in this membership).
You’ll notice the numbers outside of the wheel. This is the degree of your House Cusps. Every sign has 30 degrees, 0 to 29. Like I mention in the Intro To Astro Course, I use Equal Houses, which means that every House Cusp is at the same degree.
This New Moon occurs at 28 Degrees Cancer. If you have, let’s say, Leo on the 10th House Cusp at 5 Degrees, then this will fall in your 9th House. But if you have Cancer on the 8th House Cusp at 5 Degrees, then this New Moon would actually fall in your 8th House.
This adds a layer of interpretation for how this New Moon will affect you personally.
Danielle’s New Moon in Cancer Reflection
“Perhaps home is not a place but simply an irrevocable condition.”
― James Baldwin, Giovanni's Room
“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou, All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes
“If money is your hope for independence, you will never have it. The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.”
― Henry Ford
Post Eclipse Season, Venus and Mercury Direct (though not quite yet out of their shadow), the Sun and Moon oppose Saturn Retrograde, and more loosely Jupiter Retrograde and Pluto Retrograde. This is a line in the sand, a marker.
Cancer’s soft edges are confronted by above trio’s determination and weight. We’re making big choices, about home, about family. Our security is paramount as we navigate these unchartered waters.
What do we need?
And if we cannot meet those needs exactly, how do we adjust?
This is our second New Moon in Cancer in a row. The first was at 0 degrees on June 21, this one is at 28, nearly the last degree. How much has transpired in the last month? How many shifts?
We are at the very tail end of Cancer Season. On the 22nd, the Sun moves into Leo and we’re called into the courageousness and generosity of our hearts.
Because this is a New Moon, it’s an opportunity for us to really sit with ourselves, to plant seeds. What is it that we want to nurture in our lives. Despite any and all odds, despite whatever material is present, what matters most? Start there. Nurture that.
Important Astrological Events During the Next Two Weeks:
July 22: Sun moves into Leo
July 27: Mercury square Mars + Venus square Neptune. We may feel hotheaded and confused all at once.
July 30: Mercury opposite Jupiter: our thoughts and speech may feel grand, a feeling of hope and expansion
August 1: Mercury opposite Pluto: our thoughts and speech are transformative and powerful
August 2nd: Sun square Uranus: restlessness and increased desire for freedom and liberation
August 3rd: Full Moon in Aquarius
AFFIRMATION (S)
I find security within.
JOURNAL PROMPTS
What does security mean to me?
What is my relationship to the idea of security?
Pema Chödrön has written:“if you are invested in security and certainty, you are on the wrong planet.” How do I feel about this statement? What does it bring forward within me?
What do I feel I need in order to feel secure?
In what ways, do I feel I currently feel secure?
In what ways do I currently feel insecure?
What feels out of my control right now?
What feels within my control right now?
How can I support myself in taking initiative in the areas that I do have control over and surrendering the rest?
SETTING INTENTIONS
Intentions differ from goals. While goals are action oriented, intentions express how we want to experience our goals. This heightens their power. For example, we may have a goal of reaching a certain weight, but the weight is simply a number. An intention grants us more agency. I always recommend starting an intention with some variation of “I am gracefully finding myself…” For example, “I am gracefully finding myself feeling lean, flexible, healthy and fit. I am gracefully finding myself loving the way my body feels and my clothes fit.” And because Spirit /The Universe/God is so much wiser and intelligent than we are, I also always include “This Or Something Better For The Highest Good Of All Concerned,” something I learned in my training. This allows us a deeper level of trust and surrender.
